Certain Fluidities
from Olga KuAgora Gallery is pleased to announce Certain Fluidities, a group exhibition of paintings, photographs, and sculptures that explore changeability across the physical, psychological, and perceptual. The exhibition will run from January 3 to 24, 2023 with an opening reception on Thursday, January 5, 6-8 PM.
Certain Fluidities is a group exhibition of paintings, photographs, and sculptures that explores changeability across the physical, psychological, and perceptual. The show features work ranging from acrylic and oil paint to digital collage, ink, and textiles. Fluidity is examined from the point of view of tangible and intangible narratives. Forms mold and transform with ease, their soft contours blending seamlessly with the background, so that we cannot tell what lies below or above, behind or before, within or without. What appears at first glance reveals a different reality upon further observation: a turtle-shaped silhouette is the shadow of a person; hefty bronze-looking sculptures are hollow and made of light fabric; a tight-worn sweater on a woman’s body is a thought-provoking tapestry on gender dynamics.
Marbled patterns, expansive ink dilutions, superimpositions, and intersections challenge and reverse our visual status quo, offering fodder for reflection. Harmonious fluctuations of palettes and geometries create visual continuance across the front space, flowing beautifully into the mezzanine and skylight room in the back, taking the viewer on a tantalizing journey through objective and subjective planes of existence.
