Maine’s local Independent Garden Centers are gearing up for a statewide push to get families outside and in the dirt with Plant Something Weekend June 22-24. Kick off the gardening season with the latest and greatest plants, shrubs, and trees, expert advice, and just about everything you need to succeed when you plant this year!

Organized by the Maine Landscape & Nursery Association (MELNA), Plant Something Weekend encourages families to get planting for personal health, community and the environment with incentives and activities, including:

O’Donal’s Nursery, 6 County Road, Gorham, ME
Join O’Donal’s Nursery as they showcase their new geothermal greenhouse. Come learn about this energy efficient technology with Dave Leonard of Evergeen Geothermal, find out their plans for the future, and enjoy their beautiful nursery in full bloom!

Robin’s Flower Pot, 387 Webster Road, Farmington, ME
Robin’s Flower Pot will be offering 25% off all trees throughout the weekend.

Estabrook’s, 337 East Main Street, Yarmouth, ME
Estabrook’s in Yarmouth will feature free seed giveaways and a scavenger hunt where your children can take part to win a special prize. On Saturday, 107.5 Frank FM will be broadcasting live on location, and on Sunday you can enjoy a tasty lunch from the NOM BAI food truck!

Plants Unlimited, 629 Commercial Street, Rockport, ME
Plants Unlimited will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with special sales, and they will be presenting a lecture on pollinators and local plants, with plenty of food trucks onsite!

Fieldstone Gardens, 55 Quaker Lane, Vassalboro, ME
Fieldstone Gardens will be having an open house on Sunday, June 24 with garden tours throughout the day with experts on hand to answer questions, hourly door prize drawings, and iced tea, lemonade and goodies from Hillman’s Bakery.

Broadway Gardens, 1640 Broadway, South Portland, ME
Broadway Gardens will offer a Honey Bee talk and demonstration from The Honey Exchange on Saturday, June 23. On Sunday, June 24 they will host a mushroom log inoculation demonstration and mushroom sale form Mistress Mary Mushrooms. Broadway Gardens will feature a 10% discount on trees, shrubs, and rosebushes on both Saturday and Sunday.

Coastal Landscaping, 941 Route #1, York, ME
Coastal Landscaping will offer one-gallon perennials for $9.00 June 22-24, with a $6.00 Sunday special on "Milkweed Ascelpias Tuberosa" for Monarch Butterflies.
