Program:
SCHUBERT Adagio e Rondo Concertante, D. 487
MOZART Piano Quartet in E Flat, KV 493
STRAUSS Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 13
This quartet was created in 1985 by The Berlin Philharmonic, one of the highest ranked orchestras in the world. The quartet features world-renowned pianist Markus Groh (the first German winner of the Queen Elisabeth International Piano Competition) and Berlin Philharmonic musicians Andreas Buschatz on violin, Matthew Hunter on viola, and Knut Weber on cello. This arrangement of musicians is one of the only of its kind and strives to perform the finest quality of musical ability and repertoire, beautifully represented with this program of classical works.
The piano takes center stage in Schubert’s first work for piano and strings, with its captivating melodies and energetic rondo. Mozart’s second piano quartet sparkles as delightful phrases pass intimately between instruments with breathtaking elegance. Closing this special program is the expressive quartet by Strauss, displaying the rich sonority and dramatic lyricism that became signatures of his Romantic symphonic works.
